Where do you go to school, and how did you decide that was the right place for you?
I go to the University of Delaware. I decided to attend UD because it was far enough away from home where I could expand my horizons and meet new people but also close enough to home that I could visit on the weekends to see my family when I wanted to. In addition, I came to UD as a first-year student with no idea what I wanted to study, but they have a variety of amazing programs, and I knew I would find the right one for me here.
Why are you interested in the field of public relations, and what type of industry or sector are you interested in pursuing after graduation?
I am interested in public relations because I want to create impactful work that connects people and cultivates meaningful connections. After graduation I want to work in an agency, hopefully close to my hometown of Philadelphia!
With public relations quickly evolving – how do you think young professionals like yourself will need to prepare to keep up with the times?
Young professionals need to prepare to keep up with the evolving industry by reading the news. In one of my courses this semester, my professor has us do “On the Pulse.” Before each class, you must come prepared with a news article published within the last week to give the class a brief synopsis of the article and how it affects PR professionals and the industry in under 30 seconds. However, you don’t know when you will be chosen to present so you must come prepared for each class. This has helped me get in the habit of reading the news every day and keeping up with current trends in the industry.
Are you an active volunteer or member of any organization beyond PPRA?
I am an active member of the University of Delaware’s chapter of PRSSA. I currently serve as the Director of Member Communication, where I am the main point of contact between our members and the executive board. I draft weekly emails to keep our members up to date on meetings and the opportunities available to them.
Just for fun – what’s your dream news outlet or reporter to work with someday?
Gio Benetiz from Good Morning America! He was a keynote speaker at PRSSA’s ICON in Anaheim, California, in 2024 and he had an inspiring career story about being authentic and not giving up on yourself.
