What led you to pursue a career in broadcast journalism, and what has kept you inspired to continue in this field?

A love of writing and telling people's stories. I am a curious person by nature.

You've been with 6abc for over 15 years. What do you enjoy most about your role there and the work you do every day?

Every day is different, and the stories are incredibly varied, from politics to profiles of change makers to highlighting issues to lifestyle. We have the power and the platform to tell stories that can be truly life-changing. That's very fulfilling.

For public relations professionals pitching to 6abc, what advice would you give to help the pitch stand out in your inbox? Are there any common mistakes you'd suggest they avoid?

Know the show that you're pitching. Understand the stories that are being told in that show and its raison d'être. Don't pitch the same clients repeatedly with no particular hook, other than an upcoming holiday (Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc.). Do pitch new clients and fresh ideas. We're always looking for those.

Looking back at your career so far, is there a story or broadcast that still stands out to you?

I started my career covering live, breaking news and so there are tragedies that I covered that stay with me. I wouldn't say they are my favorites, just memorable. What I enjoy most is telling stories about people.

Can you share one of the most memorable or rewarding experiences you've had during your time in journalism?

The most rewarding stories for me are filled with hope, stories about people who are taking a risk and making a difference for their families, their communities and the world. Those stories never fail to move me to tears.

Just for fun: If you weren't working in journalism, what other career could you see yourself enjoying?

I love psychology and understanding why people do what they do. It's why I love journalism. Everyone has a why. When you tell their stories, you learn their why.
