Tourism and hospitality

Share a recent win (e.g. Major media placement, merger, expansion). Please provide a link to this win.

The PHLCVB team started the initial bid to host the FIFA World Cup back in 2017 and has been diligently working behind the scenes ever since. I was able to secure a podcast interview with a major trade publication for a member of our team who has been working for nearly a decade on this project and had a major hand in the logistical success of the World Cup in Philadelphia this summer.

Why does this win matter to you/your organization?

So much of the PHLCVB's work is behind the scenes, but the impacts are felt throughout the region. These types of industry interviews help to not only recognize the team's hard work but position them as industry leaders.

Are you an active volunteer or member in any organization beyond PPRA?

Yes! I am a Member of PRSA Philly.

What is one of your favorite moments from being in PPRA?

Meeting Tarana Burke, the activist and founder of the MeToo movement, who served as keynote speaker at the 2018 PPRA Annual Meeting. Her work shifted the way we talk about sexual violence and the MeToo movement transformed digital social activism.

What is one of your favorite moments from your current organization?

This summer, our comms team had the opportunity to staff the press box for the FIFA World Cup matches and helped elevate Philadelphia's story among the hundreds of international reporters in town to cover the tournament.

You’ve worked across tourism, events, and historic attractions—how have those experiences shaped your approach to communications?

Working in these industries has reinforced the importance of storytelling in communication. What draws us to a new destination, museum, or exhibition if not a good story that piques our curiosity?

Just for fun: If you could instantly master any hobby or skill outside of work, what would it be?

I am traveling to Mexico City in a few months and would love to instantly be fluent in Spanish when I arrive!
